How are the weekends going for everyone? It’s the first week of November and also time to get your taste buds craving for some tasty food items found in the hidden gems within this beautiful city we live in.
Does this cat look familiar to you? He is no other than Sir Antonio of The Tiramisu Hero! For the second café-hopping stop, we’ve been hunting down for cozy cafes with sweet treats to bring out the glutton in you – and The Tiramisu Hero fits the bill no otherwise.
121 Tyrwhitt Road
Daily: 11am – 10pm
Nearest MRT Station: Lavender, Farrer Park
Opened by young co-owners Peggy (lifestyle blogger, more known as sixpegs) and Aileen (a financial planner herself too), the heroines are unified by the dream of having their very own café. What started out as a humble online site that sells customizable Tiramisu desserts has transformed into the remarkable café that we see today.
The signboards are quirky, interior design being interesting and hand-drawn beautifully, and the whole café environment captures the essence of a cozy setting for foodies and photographers to gather together.
I personally like the idea of black against white for the interior layout as it gives a very clean and neat look for customers.
I was pleased with the customer service as they poured two cups of complimentary water the moment we were seated. I’m guessing customers can help themselves with the iced cold water on days when the café gets busier with more customers on hand.
One of the happiest moments of my experience there was when I flipped open their food menu. I’m a person who loves visuals and graphics, especially those that are cute and attractive and capture my attention. The launch of this new food menu gave me a better understanding of the food items through its details and clever images, and was definitely a unique plus point that stood out from ordinary food menus that could be easily found at any other cafés.
Dory Fish Chunks $6
First up, we ordered these fried dory fish chunks in a light batter. My weak spot is anything crispy and toasty on the outside, yet soft, fluffy and flavorful inside. Squeeze some lemon juice over the fish chunks and dip them in sauce for the ultimate dish!
Honey Glazed Wings $7.8
Sir Antonio’s recommendation was definitely correct. This has got to be one of the best or even the best honey glazed wings I’ve ever tried! 8 pieces of tender chicken wings and drumlets lightly marinated with honey and baked to perfection. For salad lovers, receive a surprise when you notice the layer of salad crisps at the bottom.
Chef Chef Curry Baked Rice $12.5
White Jasmine rice baked in fragrant chef chef chicken curry, with a Level 1 for level of spice. You can also add a sunny-side up at $1.0 extra, or cheese at an extra $2.0. I picked the cheesy option, and was really satisfied with the results…
A generous amount of melted cheese topped the freshly-baked curry rice. We scooped into the thick layer of baked rice to find a steaming, hot platter of curry with mushrooms, chicken, and spices. It honestly tastes much better than it might look.
Of course, we couldn’t leave The Tiramisu Hero without desserts, could we? ‘Tiramisu’ means ‘pick me up’ in Italian, and is a timeless and classic Italian dessert that’s popular among people worldwide. To bring a twist to this traditional sweet treat, the co-owners came up with many variations to their personal favourite.
Each dessert is made of different flavours infuse into rich, whipped mascarpone cheese. Choose from the original favourites such as Chocolate and Strawberry to new and unique flavours such as Lemon Lavender and Oreo.
I picked the Cinnamon flavour and regretted my decision not a single bit! In fact, Cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar and improve brain health, too. Indulging in this yummy cup of tiramisu made me thankful for such a wonderful dinner I had at the café. I even opted for takeaway and got to keep this adorable jar!
For customers who prefer to have a delectable treat delivered straight to your doorstep, you can also choose to order online for their full range of flavours! Whether you prefer your flavours alcoholic, sweeter, or even control the level of wetness, you could do so by customizing your very own unique tiramisu! I loved my Cinnamon Tiramisu as it contained rich sweetness and tiramisu flavour, yet soft with an added Cinnamon twist. I enjoyed every scoop of it!
One does not simply leave the café without taking a picture masked under Sir Antonio’s ballooned-up head. Look, it’s smiling at you!
Here is my overall rating of the café.
Atmosphere: 5/5 (you need to check out their bathroom – it’s gorgeous)
Would I visit the café again? This is no doubt a Yes indeed! I’m really, really pleased with not only the food there but also the customer service, and how they attended to our needs from time to time. The place was very well air-conditioned, with soft music and even complementary wifi-service. Some food items might have been a slightly pricier, but for everything else that made up for it, it was worth every single cent we paid.
